Spotify has removed thousands of AI-generated songs as part of an investigation into fraud related to fake streams.
Spotify sources announced that it had removed tens of thousands of songs from the AI music service Boomy, amounting to about 7% of the Boomy songs that had been uploaded to Spotify.
The songs were removed because Spotify suspected that they were being streamed through “artificial means.” That means bots were being used to pretend to be human listeners, streaming the songs from Boomy.
Boomy allows users to use artificial intelligence to generate songs, using verbal descriptors — similar to the process used by AI art generators like Midjourney.
In a statement about the purge, Spotify said, “Artificial streaming is a longstanding, industry-wide issue that Spotify is working to stamp out across our service.”
