Poll: Public Extremely Worried About AI/ChatGPT Crime

A new poll shows that the public at large is extremely worried that ChatGPT and other AI tools will be used to commit serious crimes.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) poll found that 84% of the people they spoke to worried that AI will be used to assist criminal activity. Additionally, 77% said they were concerned AI will be used to radicalize people to extremism and 75% said they feared the use of AI in inciting hate and harassment.

Additionally, 83% of the people in the poll said they had concerns about AI being used to spread false or misleading information.

To prevent malicious use of AI, almost 90% of the people surveyed said tech companies should take steps to prevent AI tools from being used to generate extremist images and other forms of content.

The ADL surveyed 1,007 people in the United States for the survey and timed the release of the survey to come out before OpenAI CEO testified before Congress on May 16, 2023. OpenAI is the company that created ChatGPT.
